Affiliate
Marketing
How affiliate marketing
offers you a different way of making money from your website.
You can think of
Affiliate marketing on the internet as either a bizarre but
interesting way of doing business or just a natural progression
from the days when all businesses used middle-men to sell or
distribute their goods and services.
In the real world
businesses still do use middle-men and agencies to widen their
access to markets that on their own they couldn't hope to sell
into. It makes sense - the agent makes a good living and
the original supplier sells more in total.
Win-win stuff.
On the internet
affiliate marketing has become much much easier. You don't even
need to meet or talk with the people whose products you are
selling. In fact it has got so easy that all you need to
do to make money is to introduce a buyer via your affiliate link
to a seller who may be on the other side of the world.

Ironically a type
of middleman has developed to assist the growth of these
relationships. These are businesses such as Clickbank or
CommissionJunction that help put web publishers and product
developers together. They build tools that enable a range
of web publishers to act as affiliates for a range of producers
all using the same type of link.
Take Clickbank for
example. There are over 10,000 products sold via Clickbank
now and yet to sell one or all of these products and get your
commission, you only need to use a simple encoded link that is
the same format for all these products.
As a publisher it
is likewise: you can use the same Clickbank facilities to sell a
whole range of information products.
For non-information
products the process is not quite so straightforward but the
principles still apply.
