Chitika eMiniMalls
Chitika has developed eMiniMalls that, like AdSense, earn you money when they are clicked on.
The set up is very similar to AdSense: you can specify color schemes and the format of your eMiniMalls so that they fit into your website well.
The payout is 60% of what Chitika earns per click but I don't as yet have much information about the value of a click.
There are a few things you need to be careful about.
- You can set up your eMiniMall so that it includes a search option.
This is an attractive service because it lets you monetize non-targeted
traffic. However, Google prohibits you from using a competitive
monetized search facility if you already use AdSense for Search on your
site.
- By default your eMiniMall does not automatically present ads that are
relevant to your content. Instead you use your eMiniMall control panel
to choose what type of ads you want appearing on your site. The
system then automatically rotates ads related to these topics each time
the page is refreshed.
- The range of advertisements is not as large as in the AdSense program
but you do have total control over what ads you display on your site.
- Study the Terms and Conditions. They are very similar to those for
AdSense and unsurprisingly you are not allowed to click on your own ads.
- You can place multiple eMiniMalls on a page. The maximum number is not
specified but clearly you don't want to over do it!
Control Panel
The Chitika control panel is easy to operate and you also get a Channel system to let you track which pages are making you the most money. You can set up as many as 1,000 channels.
Payment
Reporting data is provided daily but on a delayed basis and you get paid monthly by PayPal when your account balance exceeds $10 or, if you are paid by check, when you balance reaches $50
What I like about Chitika
- You can make your eMiniMall ad very
specific. This is useful if you
create content about highly specific topics. For example, if you write about
Logitech speakers, by entering the keywords "logitech speakers"
into your control panel you will get an eMiniMall ad for logitech speakers
on your site.
- The ads are interactive and therefore get attention. If you run your
cursor over the tabs, the main content of the ad changes.
- You can make your ad fit into your website easily.
- There is a useful referral system built into your account.
What I don't like about Chitika
- My application was rejected initially but I was accepted within 12 hours
of writing an email asking for them to reconsider. Chitika won't tell you
why you've been rejected.
- The range of available ads is not as wide as it is with AdSense.
Will you make much money?
This will clearly depend on your website, how much traffic you get and whether you can get ads that are relevant to your site's topic. I know of one site that made more money with eMiniMalls than with AdSense so it is probably worth a try.
