Search Engine Optimisation

How SEO can deliver free traffic
that gets the AdSense clicks

Search Engine Optimisation is a massively complex area and anyone who says he understands it all is wrong.

The reason is that different search engines work in different ways and they also change the way they work over time and there are simply too many for one person to know about in detail.

However, the biggest search engine is Google so we are going to concentrate on Google alone here.

Your aim is to get to the top of the rankings when keywords relevant to your sites theme are entered into Google.  The simple idea being that this can generate free - but actively interested - traffic to your site.

Search Engine traffic is the best sort you can get because all web traffic that comes to your site this way is in ACTIVE mode, positively looking for information.

Give them the information they want and they will like your site.

SEO and Facts About AdSense .com

If you search Google for AdSense you probably won't find FactsAboutAdsense yet although in time you will.  This is because older sites with many more links to them already exist that include info about AdSense in them.

However, because this site is specifically about AdSense, you will find it easily for you search for phrases like "adsense profits", or "adsense faqs".  Over time I will be extending this site to include different phrase combinations in order to get those free hits.

The way to get to the top of a search engine's page is to deliver specific pages on your site about particular aspects of your theme and to plaster keywords relating to this theme in the text to the extent that it becomes a little obvious that you have done so. For example, this page is about Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and AdSense (there you are, I've found another excuse to use the phrase SEO again without it looking too bad.)

You also need to make sure that you use the H1 and H2 tags in your HTML and write keyword targeted phrases in these tags.  Many site designers completely fail to do this.

Look at this page's HTML tags: (click on View, Source and then search for H1 etc.)

H1 "Search Engine Optimisation" - well that's pretty clear.

H2 "How SEO can deliver free traffic that gets the AdSense clicks" - not so clear but it includes another keyword "SEO" that is the abbreviation for Search Engine Optimisation.

The reason this matters is two-fold: first, Search Engines look at the H1 and H2 headings to see what the site is about.  They also look at page titles (this page is called search-engine-optimisation .htm), the wording in the body of the page and so on.

Just as importantly, they often use the phrases in the H1 and H2 headings to define how your page is described when it appears on the Search results page.

Google changes the way it ranks pages regularly (known as the Google Dance) and it can severely change your rankings overnight so you should never rely entirely on Google SEO for AdSense.

Links to your site and SEO

Google ranks your site partly on the basis of how many well-ranked sites link to it, the rationale being that a good site will have lots of links to it from other good sites.  The trouble with this process is that it takes ages to get going and you rely on other people to help you out.  However, some internet marketers exploit this by swapping links with each other.

Actions for SEO and AdSense

Create dedicated pages to specific keyword combinations that are relevant to your overall site theme.

Use the H1 and H2 (and to a lesser extent the H3) headings wisely. They should include your keywords and entice people to read more so when they see your link in a Search Engine they want to click.
